The short answer: ChatGPT Ads may give a small business a new way to appear while people compare options and decide what to do. OpenAI says Ads Manager now serves small and medium-sized businesses. Access and performance still depend on your market, offer, and measurement.

In its August 31 announcement, OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate in less than 200 days and is used by tens of thousands of advertisers. Those are company-reported numbers. The practical change for a small business is broader access to Ads Manager and self-service in more markets.

What is confirmed

ChatGPT Ads are designed for moments when people are exploring options, comparing alternatives, or moving toward a decision. OpenAI says ads remain separate from ChatGPT's answers and clearly labeled.

The current ChatGPT Ads guide lists an ad title, description, landing page, and image asset. It also lists CPM and CPC buying options. OpenAI currently recommends starting CPC bids at $3 to $5, but that is guidance from OpenAI, not a promise of your cost.

OpenAI calls Ads Manager Beta the place to create and manage campaigns. Its current overview says the product is still evolving. Country access is separate from account creation, so check the live availability list before you build a plan around it.

What to check before spending

Start with one decision

Choose one service, product, or appointment. Write the question a good prospect is trying to answer. Build the ad and landing page around that question. ChatGPT Ads use conversation context, but OpenAI says context hints are not exact-match keywords and do not guarantee delivery.

Make the landing page earn the click

A relevant ad cannot fix a vague next step. Show who the offer is for, what happens next, and what the visitor can expect. If the action is a call, make sure someone can respond when the ad creates interest.

Choose the measurement before the campaign

Ads Manager can report impressions, clicks, spend, and conversions when conversion measurement is set up. Add a tracking parameter to the landing page. Then decide what counts as a useful result. A booked consultation tells you more than a cheap click.

Test the response after the ad

Paid discovery is only the first step. If a prospect calls, your team still needs a clear intake and follow-up path. Our AI receptionist follow-up guide shows how to keep a good conversation from going quiet.

What the announcement does not prove

OpenAI's revenue figure does not tell you what a local service business will pay or earn. Advertiser examples on a company product page are not independent studies. A new channel still needs a narrow offer, a useful page, and enough time to produce a signal you can trust.

ChatGPT Ads also do not replace the rest of your customer journey. They can create discovery. Your content, response process, and sales handoff determine whether that discovery becomes a real opportunity.

Where this fits in the Leadspa growth loop

ChatGPT Ads sit near the start of the loop. They can help a business show up during active research. Our recent guide to Google's Demand Gen update covers a different paid-discovery channel and a similar lesson: keep the first test small enough to learn what changed.

The next step is a useful conversation. Leadspa can help connect the offer, the landing page, and the follow-up workflow so the first response has context.
